I am constantly fascinated by contrasting physical space with music and sound— it’s an emotional goldmine. THE WALK is my first sketch with location-based audio. Its an app that combines your location, about 30 layers of music and 9 monologs. Based on the feelings surrounding my usual daily 20 minute walk, it transports the listener’s interior world, while activating our physical reality in direct contrast.

It’s available now, for free: find out more about The Walk on this page.

GOVERN was my first experiment with early computer language model based translations. This project specifically uses pre-AI translation software.

I took the poem HOWL by Allen Ginsberg and translated the original in Russian, then took the Russian version and translated that back into English. Then I repeated the process with 10 other languages- Chinese, Punjab, Tamil, Italian, Farsi, etc.

Then, line by line, I wove together a new version of the poem- informed by the clumsy translations and quirks of misunderstood intentions. The result is poem that is not the original, nor is it a translation- its removal from the human hand and ego is like the chimney still standing of a house that’s been burned to the ground. Its the essence of the thing, seen in a new light, with a new kind of poetry to it.
